Short Story Exercise (for Week 6)
Stories can come from anywhere—a memory, something overheard,
an image that insinuates itself in your mind and spins a tale. Write a short
story, 2-3 typewritten pages in length, or, if it is longer, bring in your
best 2-3 pages.
You might want to pick a photo of a solitary person and
either tell the story from the inside (become that person) or from the outside
(tell about the person or put yourself in the picture with him or her).
Ask a question, such as “what does this person need, or want, most in the
world, and what is in the way of getting it?”
And then just let ‘er rip.
